Ethylene production via oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) represents an interesting route for natural gas upscaling, being the focus intensive research worldwide. Here, OCM developments are analysed in terms kinetic mechanisms and respective applications chemical reactor models, discussing current challenges directions further developments. Furthermore, some thermodynamic aspects reactions also revised, providing achievable olefins yields a wide range operational reaction conditions. Finally, catalysts reviewed catalytic performances thermal stability, executive summary future studies on economic feasibility.
